How to Calculate CGPA from Course Grades and Marks

Start with the official grading table

A mark such as 78% does not have one universal grade-point value. One university may map it to 8 points, another to 3.3, and another may use a letter grade first.

Before calculating CGPA, identify the grading scale that applies to your program and academic year.

Convert each course to grade points

For every course, convert the final mark or letter grade to the corresponding grade point. Do not invent a conversion factor if your institution publishes a table.

Apply course credits

Multiply each course grade point by its credit value. Add those quality points, then divide by the total credits that count toward GPA.

Example: 9 points in a 4-credit course and 8 points in a 3-credit course give 36 + 24 = 60 quality points. Across 7 credits, the weighted average is about 8.57.

CGPA to percentage is a separate question

Some institutions publish a CGPA-to-percentage formula, while others do not. A factor such as 9.5 should only be used where the relevant board or university explicitly prescribes it.
